A Fresh Take On The 1982 Classic

If there’s one film that never ceases to amaze me, it’s Blade Runner. Inspired from Philip K. Dick’s seminal 1968 novel, Ridley Scott’s interpretation put classic noir on a futuristic, dystopian backdrop, serving as an inspiration for film, television, and mixed media well into the present day. For my Motion Design II class, we were given the task of reimagining the opening sequence for a film, and the mundane black and white titles of the original film felt like the perfect candidate. I found inspiration from the visuals used throughout Blade Runner, as well as Scott’s previous work on Alien (1979) to create not only a complimentary title sequence, but a love letter to one of my all-time favorites.
